Mill Road Bridge Moved to Mount Vernon
Photo: 11/15/2008 rjThe Mill Road bowstring iron bridge (1872) has been removed from its original location on Mill Road (near Bladensburg) and trucked to Mount Vernon. It will be moved again next year to a peninsula in the nearby lake to become part of a trail system in Foundation Park. Read the complete article about the move online in the Mount Vernon News.
The bridge now sits on dry land so that renovation can be done. Examination of the bridge reveals that it is in very good condition considering its long abandonment, although its wooden deck is completely gone.
