Future of Orange Road Bridge Being Debated

Photo: R.Jones 2005

Delaware County is considering removal of this 1898 Pratt Through metal truss bridge. Its listed on National Register of Historic Places but is at risk due to the ever increasing volume of traffic over this narrow bridge. The track record for historic bridges in this county has not been good. The Stockwell and Hoskins Road bridges were removed last year. The county has one surviving covered bridge on Chambers Road. It's in use but not in great shape.
The county is accepting input on the Orange Road bridge issue. Go to their website here: Orange Road Bridge to read more about it. Also there will be an open house in Powell, Ohio April 26, 2006 to allow comment on the project.

The Longest Covered Bridge Debate

A soon to be released stamp commemorating the Cornish-Windsor CB as the "longest" at 450 ft is upsetting the New Brunswick town of Hartland, who claim the longest CB in the world at 1,282ft. Ohio will soon take the US record with a new CB across the Ashtabula River at 600 ft.
