Abandoned Bridges Discovered in Vinton County

Photos: Heinz Saidel, 2008

These two Pratt pinned pony bridges are over Elk Creek within a few hundred yards of each other and near the remains of Vinton Iron Furnace. They carry an abandoned road that was bypassed by a new road to the east. See map for the general location. The bridges appear to be late 19th century and were first reported to us by abandonedohio.com. Heinz Saidel recently visited the site to confirm their existence and took these pictures.
